Apostasy may also consist in abandoning part of the religion, as is the case with the people of innovation, including the Rāfidis and others. Allah Most High raises up a people whom He loves and who love Him, and they fight those who have apostatized from the religion or from part of it. Thus, in every age He raises up those who fight the Rāfidis who have apostatized from the religion or from part of it.

It is Allah, Glorified is He, whom we ask to make us among those whom He loves and who love Him—those who fight the apostates [and the followers of the apostates] (1) and fear no reproach from any critic.

[Chapter: The Twenty-Sixth Proof—“Those who believe in Allah and His messengers—it is they who are the people of truth and the martyrs in the sight of their Lord”—and the Response to It]

The Rāfidi said (2): “The twenty-sixth proof is the words of Allah Most High: ‘Those who believe in Allah and His messengers—it is they who are the people of truth and the martyrs in the sight of their Lord’ [Surah al-Hadīd: 19]. Ahmad ibn Hanbal narrated through his chain of transmission from (3) Abū Laylā, from his father, who said: The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said:

وَقَدْ تَكُونُ الرِّدَّةُ عَنْ بَعْضِ الدِّينِ، كَحَالِ أَهْلِ الْبِدَعِ الرَّافِضَةِ وَغَيْرِهِمْ. وَاللَّهُ تَعَالَى يُقِيمُ قَوْمًا يُحِبُّهُمْ وَيُحِبُّونَهُ، وَيُجَاهِدُونَ مَنِ ارْتَدَّ عَنِ الدِّينِ، أَوْ عَنْ بَعْضِهِ، كَمَا يُقِيمُ مَنْ يُجَاهِدُ الرَّافِضَةَ الْمُرْتَدِّينَ عَنِ الدِّينِ، أَوْ عَنْ بَعْضِهِ، فِي كُلِّ زَمَانٍ. وَاللَّهُ سُبْحَانَهُ الْمَسْئُولُ أَنْ يَجْعَلَنَا مِنَ الَّذِينَ يُحِبُّهُمْ وَيُحِبُّونَهُ، الَّذِينَ يُجَاهِدُونَ الْمُرْتَدِّينَ [وَأَتْبَاعَ الْمُرْتَدِّينَ] (١) ، وَلَا يَخَافُونَ لَوْمَةَ لَائِمٍ.
