and they rank among the foremost people on earth in this regard, Alī being one of them. As for the condemnation it contains, the Rāfidah are the people most deeply implicated in it. Thus, it is evidence against them on both counts (1). Nor does it establish that Alī was singled out for anything to the exclusion of the three caliphs. It (2) is therefore evidence [against them] (3) in every respect and affords them no evidence whatsoever.

The Rāfidī (4) said:
“The twenty-third proof is the saying of the Exalted:
‘He is the One who supported you with His help and with the believers’ [Sūrat al-Anfāl: 62].
It is reported through Abū Nu‘aym, from Abū Hurayrah, who said: ‘Inscribed upon the Throne is: There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner (5). Muhammad is My servant and My Messenger; I supported him through Alī ibn Abī Tālib (6).’
This is His statement in His Book: ‘He is the One who supported you with His help and with the believers,’ meaning Alī (7). This is one of the greatest virtues attained by none of the other Companions (8); therefore, he must be the Imam.”
