The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—also said:
“No wealth has benefited me as Abū Bakr’s wealth has.” (1)
This explicitly establishes that this virtue belonged uniquely to him; neither Alī nor anyone else shared it with him.
Likewise, he said in the two Sahih collections:
“Of all people, Abū Bakr has shown me the greatest favor through his companionship and wealth. If I were to take an intimate friend other than my Lord, I would take Abū Bakr as my intimate friend. Rather, [what binds us is] the brotherhood and affection of Islam. Let no door into the mosque remain open except Abū Bakr’s door.” (2)
In the Sunan of Abū Dāwūd, it is related that the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said to Abū Bakr:
“Indeed, O Abū Bakr, you will be the first of my community to enter Paradise.” (3)
(1) This hadith was cited a few pages earlier in this volume (p. 159).
(2) This was discussed a few pages earlier in this volume (p. 156).
(3) The hadith is narrated from Abū Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, in *Sunan Abī Dāwūd*, 4/295 (Book of the Sunnah, chapter “Concerning the Caliphs”). Its wording is: “Gabriel came to me, took me by the hand, and showed me the gate of Paradise through which my community will enter.” Abū Bakr said, “O Messenger of Allah, I wish I had been with you so that I might have looked at it.” The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, replied, “Indeed, O Abū Bakr, you will be the first of my community to enter Paradise.”
The editor, may Allah have mercy on him, said: “Abū Khālid al-Dālānī’s name was Yazīd ibn Abd al-Rahmān. Abū Hātim declared him trustworthy; Ibn Ma'īn said, ‘There is nothing wrong with him,’ and a similar assessment is reported from Imam Ahmad. Ibn Hibbān said of him, ‘He cannot be cited as evidence even when he concurs with trustworthy transmitters, so how much less when he alone transmits grave, problematic reports that they do not?’ The hadith is also in al-Hākim’s *al-Mustadrak*, 3. Al-Hākim said, ‘This is an authentic hadith meeting the criteria of the two Shaykhs, though neither of them included it.’ Al-Dhahabī said, ‘Kh M’ (meaning that the hadith is found in al-Bukhārī and Muslim). Al-Muhāribī narrated it from him.”
However, al-Suyūtī stated in *al-Jāmi al-Saghīr* that the hadith is found in *Sunan Abī Dāwūd* and *al-Mustadrak*, while al-Albānī graded it weak in *Da'īf al-Jāmi al-Saghīr*, 1/71.
