Minhaj as-SunnahIbn Taimiya

and said:

“Allah only intends to remove defilement from you, O People of the Household, and to purify you completely. O Allah, these are truly my family (1).”’

‘It is also narrated from Umm Salamah that she said: The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—was in her house when Fātimah—may Allah be pleased with her—(2) came to him carrying a cooking pot containing flour porridge. She brought it in to him, and he said (3), “Call (4) your husband and your two sons.” She said: Alī, Hasan, and Husayn (5) came in and sat down to eat (6) some of that porridge. He and they were on a raised couch belonging to him (7), and beneath him was a cloak from Khaybar (8). She said: I was praying (9) in the adjoining chamber when Allah Most High revealed this verse:

“Allah only intends to remove defilement from you, O People of the Household, and to purify you completely.”

She said: He took hold of the loose end of the cloak and covered them with it. He then extended his hand and raised it (10) toward heaven, saying: “These are the members of my household, so remove (11) defilement from them

O Allah, they have the strongest claim [to that designation].” (2) K: “peace be upon her.” (3) K: “said.” (4) K: “Call them for me.” (5) N, M, and B: “and Hasan and Hasan”; K: “and al-Hasan and al-Husayn, peace be upon them.” (6) K: “then they ate.” (7) The term rendered “raised” is absent from K; it means “elevated.” (8) The reading *Khaybarī* (“from Khaybar”) appears in K and N; in M the word is undotted, while S and B read *hibyarī*. (9) “I was praying” is omitted from K. (10) S and B: “both his hands, and he raised them”; N: “both his hands, and he raised it.” (11) K (p. 152 M): “the people of my household and my intimates. O Allah, remove…”

وَقَالَ: " {إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنْكُمُ الرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًا} اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ هَؤُلَاءِ أَهْلِي حَقًّا (١) . » «وَعَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَتْ: إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - كَانَ فِي بَيْتِهَا، فَأَتَتْهُ فَاطِمَةُ - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا - (٢) بِبُرْمَةٍ فِيهَا حَرِيرَةٌ، فَدَخَلَتْ بِهَا عَلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ (٣) : " ادْعِي (٤) زَوْجَكِ وَابْنَيْكِ. قَالَتْ: فَجَاءَ عَلِيٌّ وَالْحَسَنُ وَالْحُسَيْنُ (٥) فَدَخَلُوا وَجَلَسُوا يَأْكُلُونَ (٦) مِنْ تِلْكَ الْحَرِيرَةِ، وَهُوَ وَهُمْ عَلَى مَنَامِ لَهُ عَلِيٍّ (٧) ، وَكَانَ تَحْتَهُ كِسَاءٌ خَيْبَرِيٌّ (٨) . قَالَتْ: وَأَنَا فِي الْحُجْرَةِ أُصَلِّي (٩) ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ: {إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنْكُمُ الرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًا} قَالَتْ: فَأَخَذَ فَضْلَ الْكِسَاءِ وَكَسَاهُمْ بِهِ، ثُمَّ أَخْرَجَ يَدَهُ فَأَلْوَى بِهَا) (١٠) . إِلَى السَّمَاءِ، وَقَالَ: " هَؤُلَاءِ أَهْلُ بَيْتِي، فَأَذْهِبْ (١١) عَنْهُمُ الرِّجْسَ

(١) ك: اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ هَؤُلَاءِ أَهْلُ بَيْتِي، اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ هَؤُلَاءِ أَحَقُّ. (٢) ك: عَلَيْهَا السَّلَامُ. (٣) ك: قَالَ. (٤) ك: ادْعِي لِي. (٥) ن، م، ب: وَحَسَنٌ وَحَسَنٌ، ك: وَالْحَسَنُ وَالْحُسَيْنُ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلَامُ. (٦) ك: فَأَكَلُوا. (٧) عَلِيٍّ: لَيْسَتْ فِي (ك) : وَالْمَعْنَى عَالٍ. (٨) خَيْبَرِيٌّ: كَذَا فِي (ك) ، (ن) ، وَفِي (م) الْكَلِمَةُ غَيْرُ مَنْقُوطَةٍ، وَفِي (س) ، (ب) حِبْيَرِيٌّ. (٩) أُصَلِّي: سَاقِطَةٌ مِنْ (ك) . (١٠) س، ب: يَدَيْهِ فَأَلْوَى بِهِمَا، ن: يَدَيْهِ فَأَلْوَى بِهَا (١١) ك: (ص ١٥٢ م) : أَهْلُ بَيْتِي وَخَاصَّتِي اللَّهُمَّ فَأَذْهِبْ.
