By the star when it descends: your companion has neither strayed nor erred.”
[Surah al-Najm: 1–2]
The response may be given from several angles:
First, its authenticity must be established, as stated previously. This is because speaking without knowledge is forbidden by the revealed texts and scholarly consensus.
Allah Most High says:
“Do not pursue that of which you have no knowledge.”
[Surah al-Isrā: 36]
He also says:
“Say: My Lord has only forbidden indecencies, whether open or concealed, sin, unjust aggression, associating with Allah that for which He has sent down no authority, and saying about Allah what you do not know.”
[Surah al-A‘rāf: 33]
He also says:
“Here you are! You have disputed about that of which you have knowledge; why, then, do you dispute about that of which you have no knowledge?”
[Surah Āl Imrān: 66]
He also says:
“Among mankind are those who dispute concerning Allah without knowledge.”
[Surah al-Hajj: 3]
He also says:
“Those who dispute concerning the signs of Allah without any authority having come to them—their disputation is greatly hateful in the sight of Allah and in the sight of those who believe.”
[Surah Ghāfir: 35] (1)
The authority that has come to them is the proof that comes from Allah, as He says:
“Or have We sent down to them an authority that speaks in support of their associating partners with Him?”
[Surah al-Rūm: 35]
And He says:
“Or do you have clear authority? Then produce your scripture, if you are truthful.”
[Surah al-Sāffāt: 156–157]
He also says:
“They are only names that you and your forefathers have given them, for which Allah has sent down no authority.”
[Surah al-Najm: 23]
