{Who would turn away from the religion of Abraham except one who makes a fool of himself? We certainly chose him in this world, and in the Hereafter he will surely be among the righteous. When his Lord said to him, “Submit,” he replied, “I have submitted to the Lord of all worlds.” Abraham enjoined this upon his sons, as did Jacob, saying, “My sons, Allah has chosen this religion for you, so do not die except as Muslims.” Or were you present when death approached Jacob and he asked his sons, “What will you worship after me?” They replied, “We shall worship your God and the God of your forefathers—Abraham, Ishmael, and Isaac—the One God, and to Him we submit.”}

The Most High said concerning Moses [peace and blessings be upon him] (2):

{My people, if you believe in Allah, then place your trust in Him, if you are Muslims.}

[Surah Yūnus: 84]

And He said:

{Indeed, We sent down the Torah, containing guidance and light. By it the prophets who submitted to Allah judged for the Jews.}

[Surah al-Mā’idah: 44]

And He said concerning Bilqīs:

{My Lord, I have wronged myself, and I submit with Solomon to Allah, the Lord of all worlds.}

[Surah al-Naml: 44]

And He said concerning the disciples:

{And when I inspired the disciples, saying, “Believe in Me and in My messenger,” they said, “We believe, so bear witness that we are Muslims.”}

Since the Messiah—may Allah’s blessings be upon him—was sent with the same message as the messengers before him—the worship of Allah alone, without any partner—and made lawful for them some of what had been forbidden to them in the Torah, his followers remained upon his religion (3) for a time—it is said, for less than one hundred years. Innovations then arose among them. Because of their hostility toward the Jews, they deliberately sought to differ from them: they went to excess regarding the Messiah, declared lawful things that he had forbidden, and permitted pork and other things,
