In the two Sahīhs, Ibn Umar narrated that Umar said:
“I agreed with my Lord on three matters (1): the Station of Abraham, the veil, and the captives of Badr.” (2)
Al-Bukhārī also narrated from Anas that Umar said:
“I agreed with my Lord on three matters—or my Lord agreed with me on three matters. I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, if only you were to take the Station of Abraham as a place of prayer.’ Then the following was revealed:
‘Take the Station of Abraham as a place of prayer.’
[Surah al-Baqara: 125] (3)
“I also said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, both the righteous and the wicked enter upon you. If only you would instruct the Mothers of the Believers to observe the veil.’ Allah then revealed the verse of the veil.
“When I learned that the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—had reproached some of his wives, I went to them and said, ‘Either you desist, or Allah will surely give His Messenger wives better than you in your place.’ Eventually, one of his wives came (4) and said, ‘O Umar, can the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—not admonish his own wives, such that you must admonish them?’ Allah then revealed:
‘Perhaps his Lord, if he divorces you, will give him wives better than you in your place’—to the end of the verse.
[Surah al-Tahrīm: 5] (5).”
