And He said:
“Should I seek any judge other than Allah, when it is He who has sent down to you the Book, fully explained?”
[Surah al-Anām: 114].
And He said:
“Do you command me to worship other than Allah, O ignorant ones? It has already been revealed to you and to those before you: If you associate partners with Allah, your deeds will surely come to nothing, and you will surely be among the losers. Rather, worship Allah alone and be among the grateful.”
[Surah al-Zumar: 64–66].
And the Exalted said:
“Say, ‘Indeed, my Lord has guided me to a straight path—a true religion—the way of Abraham, who inclined wholly to the truth and was not among those who associate partners with Allah.’ Say, ‘Indeed, my prayer, my sacrifice, my life, and my death are for Allah, Lord of all worlds. He has no partner. This is what I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims.’ Say, ‘Should I seek a lord other than Allah when He is the Lord of all things? Every soul earns only to its own account.’”
[Surah al-Anām: 161–164].
This tawhīd is found frequently throughout the Quran. It is the beginning and end of the religion, and its inward and outward reality. The summit of this tawhīd is attained by the messengers of firm resolve, and its very pinnacle by the two close friends of Allah, Muhammad and Abraham—may Allah bless them both and grant them abundant peace. It has been authentically reported from the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—through more than one route that he said:
“Allah has taken me as a close friend, just as He took Abraham as a close friend.” (1).
