Minhaj as-SunnahIbn Taimiya

diminish his Hajj without invalidating it, such as applying perfume and wearing regular clothing. Rather, he makes amends for doing so; of the prohibited acts, only sexual intercourse invalidates the Hajj.

Likewise, nothing removes faith altogether except pure unbelief, which leaves a person with no faith whatsoever.

They said:

This alone invalidates all deeds. Anything less than that may invalidate only some of a person’s deeds, as in the verse concerning reminders of generosity and hurtful conduct: such behavior invalidates that particular act of charity, but not the rest of his deeds (1).

Those who hate what Allah has revealed are disbelievers. The deeds of the heart—such as loving Allah and His Messenger, fearing Allah, and similar deeds—are all part of faith. Hating what Allah has revealed is unbelief. The firmest bond of faith is to love for Allah’s sake and to hate for Allah’s sake.

Allah Most High said:

“You will not find any people who believe in Allah and the Last Day showing affection for those who oppose Allah and His Messenger.”

[Surah al-Mujādilah: 22]

His statement concerning the foremost, the moderate, and the one who wrongs himself:

“Gardens of perpetual residence, which they will enter”

[Surah al-Ra'd: 23]

does not preclude the one who wrongs himself from having been punished before this and then entering them.

His statement:

“None will burn in it except the most wretched”

[Surah al-Layl: 15]

must be understood in one of two ways: either burning therein refers to a particular form of punishment—as it has been said, the one burned by the Fire is the one whom it encompasses, whereas the Fire will not burn the parts of the bodies of the people of the qiblah used in prostration—or the verse refers to a particular fire.

His statement:

“Allah warns His servants by it”

[Surah al-Zumar: 16]

is like the words of the Prophet—may Allah bless
