The Rāfidites also reduce the five prayers to three, always combining the noon and afternoon prayers and the sunset and evening prayers. No other group within the Ummah has adopted this position. It resembles the religion of the Jews, among whom there are three prayers (1).
The extremists among the devout require their followers to perform the forenoon prayer, the witr prayer, and the night vigil, bringing the number of prayers in their reckoning to seven; this is the religion of the Christians. The Rāfidites perform neither the Friday prayer nor congregational prayer, whether behind their own adherents or anyone else. They pray only behind an infallible person, yet there is no infallible person among them. No other sect exhibits this to a greater degree than the Rāfidites. All other adherents of innovation (2), apart from them, perform the Friday and congregational prayers only behind their own adherents, as is the practice of the Khārijites, the Muʿtazilites, and others. But complete nonperformance of these prayers under any circumstances is unique to the Rāfidites.
Another such practice is that they (3)—or some of them—do not say “Amen” during prayer. No other group within the Ummah does this; rather, it is part of the religion of the Jews, for the Jews envied the believers for saying “Amen.” A number of people have related that some of the Rāfidites prohibit camel meat, and that this (4) was because Aisha rode a camel. This is among the clearest manifestations of unbelief and is (5) of the same kind as the religion of the Jews.
