faith than they are. Yet they claim that these people are Allah’s elect among His servants. Everyone outside the nation of Muhammad is an unbeliever, while these people have pronounced the entire nation unbelieving or misguided, apart from their own sect (1), which they claim is the sect upon the truth and cannot unanimously agree upon misguidance. They have thus made them the choicest of Adam’s descendants.

Their likeness is that of someone who came upon a large flock of sheep and was told, “Give us the best sheep in this flock so that we may offer it as a sacrifice.” He deliberately chose the worst sheep in the flock: a one-eyed, gaunt, lame, emaciated ewe with nothing choice about it (2). He then said, “This is the finest sheep in the flock. No sacrifice is valid with any but this one. As for all the other sheep, they are not sheep at all, but merely pigs that must be killed and may not be offered as sacrifices (3).”

It is established in an authentic report that the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said:

“Whoever protects a believer from a hypocrite, Allah will protect his flesh from the Fire of Hell on the Day of Resurrection.” (4)

Every one of these Rāfidah is either a hypocrite or an ignorant person. No Rāfidī or Jahmī can be anything but a hypocrite or someone ignorant of what the Messenger—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—brought. There is no one among them who both knows what the Messenger brought and believes in it, for their opposition to what was brought

(1) A, H, R, and W: “those who.” (2) Lisān al-'Arab states: “Al-naqāwa is the choicest part of anything one selects.” Al-Lihyānī said: “The plural of al-naqāwa is nuqan and nuqā'.” (3) N and M: “the act of sacrificing.” (4) The hadith narrated from Mu'ādh ibn Anas al-Juhanī—may Allah be pleased with him—is found in Sunan Abī Dāwud, 4/373, Book of Etiquette, chapter “Defending a Muslim against Backbiting.” Its wording is: “Whoever protects a believer from a hypocrite—I believe he said—Allah will send an angel to protect his flesh from the Fire of Hell on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever accuses a Muslim of something with the intention of disgracing him, Allah will detain him on the bridge over Hell until he is free of what he said.” The hadith is also found in al-Musnad, al-Halabī edition, 3/441. Al-Albānī graded it weak in Da'īf al-Jāmi' al-Saghīr, 6/193.
