They said, ‘By Allah (1), no.’

He said, ‘I adjure you by Allah (2): Is there anyone among you other than me who faced Amr ibn Abd (3) Wudd al-Āmirī in single combat when (4) he challenged you to single combat?’

They said, ‘By Allah, no.’

He said, ‘I adjure you by Allah: Is there anyone among you other than me concerning whom the Verse of Purification was revealed, in which (5) He says:

“Allah only intends to remove impurity from you, O People of the Household, and to purify you completely.”

[Surah al-Ahzāb: 33]’

They said, ‘By Allah, no.’

He said, ‘I adjure you by Allah: Is there anyone among you other than me to whom the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said:

“You are the master of the believers” (6)?’

They said, ‘By Allah, no.’

He said, ‘I adjure you by Allah: Is there anyone among you other than me to whom the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said, “I never asked Allah for anything without also asking Him to grant you (7) the same”?’

They said, ‘By Allah (8), no.’
