The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said:
“Many men attained perfection, but only four women attained perfection.” (1)
Thus, there are many Truthful Ones among men.
[CHAPTER EIGHT: Another authentic hadith cited by the Rāfidī—“He said to Alī: ‘You are from me, and I am from you’”—and the response to it]
CHAPTER EIGHT (2)
The Rāfidī said (3): It is reported from the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—that he “said to Alī: ‘You are from me, and I am from you.’”
(1) I have not found this hadith with this wording. However, al-Haythamī states in *Majma al-Zawā’id*, 9:218: “The remaining hadiths containing the wording, ‘Many men attained perfection, but only four women attained perfection,’ are dispersed in their appropriate places in the sections on the merits of Adam, Fātima, and Khadīja.” I did not find the hadith in those places, but under the chapter on the merits of Khadīja, 9:223, I found a similar hadith:
Ibn Abbās reported: “The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—drew four lines on the ground and asked, ‘Do you know what these are?’ They replied, ‘Allah and His Messenger know best.’ The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—then said, ‘The best women of Paradise are Khadīja bint Khuwaylid; Fātima, daughter of Muhammad—may Allah bless him and grant him peace; Maryam, daughter of Imrān; and Āsiya, daughter of Muzāhim and wife of Pharaoh.’”
Al-Haythamī said: “It was narrated by Ahmad, Abū Yalā, and al-Tabarānī, and its narrators are narrators of the *Sahīh*.”
Nevertheless, there is an authentic hadith whose wording is similar. Al-Bukhārī narrated it in his *Sahīh*, 4:158, *Kitāb al-Anbiyā’* (Book of the Prophets), chapter on the words of Allah Most High, “And Allah presents an example to those who believe: the wife of Pharaoh.” Abū Mūsā—may Allah be pleased with him—reported that the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said: “Many men attained perfection, but among women only Āsiya, the wife of Pharaoh, and Maryam, daughter of Imrān, attained perfection. The superiority of Ā’isha over other women is like the superiority of *tharīd* over all other foods.”
With some variation in wording, this hadith also appears in *Sahīh al-Bukhārī*, 4:164, *Kitāb al-Anbiyā’*, chapter on the words of Allah Most High, “When the angels said, ‘O Maryam’”; 5:29, Book of the Companions of the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—chapter on the merits of Ā’isha; and 7:75, Book of Foods, chapter on the excellence of *tharīd*. See also *Sahīh Muslim*, 4:1886–1887, Book of the Merits of the Companions, chapter on the virtues of Khadīja, Mother of the Believers; *Sunan al-Tirmidhī*, 3:179–180, Book of Foods, chapter concerning the excellence of *tharīd*; *Sunan Ibn Mājah*, 2:1091, Book of Foods, chapter on the superiority of *tharīd* over other foods; and *al-Musnad*, al-Halabī ed., 4:394, 409.
