This, without doubt, is hatred toward the family of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
[This was perpetrated by the unbelievers with the assistance of the Rāfidah. They were the ones who worked to have the Hashemite women and others like them taken captive and brought before Yazid and men like him. They never fault others for any failing without that failing being even greater among themselves](1).
It has been established in the Sahih collections, Musnad collections, and Sunan works through several chains of transmission that the Muslims asked the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, how they should invoke blessings upon him. He said:
“Say: ‘O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You blessed [Abraham and] the family of Abraham(2). You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. And bestow Your blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You bestowed Your blessings upon Abraham and the family of Abraham. You are Praiseworthy(3) and Glorious(4).’”
According to another wording:
“‘And upon his wives and his descendants.’”(5)
(1) The words in square brackets are absent from MSS N, M, and W.
(2) MS Y reads: “upon Abraham,” while all the other manuscripts read: “upon the family of Abraham.” The wording adopted in the text is the version found in al-Bukhārī, 4/146–147.
(3) MSS M, H, and A read: “as You bestowed Your blessings upon Abraham. You are Praiseworthy”; MSS Y, R, B, and W read: “as You bestowed Your blessings upon the family of Abraham. You are Praiseworthy.”
(4) The hadith is narrated with similar wording from Ka'b ibn Ujra and Abū Mas'ūd al-Ansārī—may Allah be pleased with them both—in al-Bukhārī, 4/146–147 (Book of the Prophets, chapter: “Yaziffūn: hastening in one’s walk”); 6/120 (Book of Tafsīr, Surah al-Ahzāb, chapter: “Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet…”); 8/77 (Book of Supplications, chapter on invoking blessings upon the Prophet); Muslim, 1/305–306 (Book of Prayer, chapter on invoking blessings upon the Prophet); and Sunan al-Tirmidhī, 1/301–302 (Book of Witr, chapter concerning the manner of invoking blessings upon the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace). The hadith is also narrated from Talha ibn Ubayd Allah—may Allah be pleased with him—in al-Musnad (al-Ma'ārif ed.), 2/365. It is likewise found in the Sunan collections of Abū Dāwūd, al-Nasā'ī, and al-Dārimī.
(5) The hadith with this exact wording is narrated from Abū Humayd al-Sā'idī—may Allah be pleased with him—in al-Bukhārī, 4/146, and Muslim, 1/306, at the locations cited in the preceding note.
