in his Sahih, as did al-Nasā’ī and others, by way of Ibn Awn, from al-Hasan al-Basrī, from his mother, from Umm Salama, who said:
Allah’s Messenger—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said:
“The rebellious faction will kill Ammār.” (1)
He also narrated it by way of Shuba, from Khālid, from Saīd ibn Abī al-Hasan and al-Hasan, from their mother (2), from Umm Salama—may Allah be pleased with her—(3).
Some of its routes state that he said this while the Trench was being dug (4). Al-Bayhaqī and others stated that this was an error. The correct view is that he said it only on the day the mosque was built. It has also been suggested that he may have said it on both occasions.
It has been transmitted through other routes from Amr ibn al-Ās and his son Abd Allah (5), from Uthmān ibn Affān (6), and from Ammār himself (7). The chains of transmission for these reports are reasonably acceptable (8). It has also been transmitted through other, very weak routes, but the report in the Sahih renders recourse to any others unnecessary.
