al-Husayn’s lineage except someone deliberately bent on lying (1) and fabrication—or someone whose inner sight Allah has blinded through following his own desire, until such a fact is hidden (2) from him? For the eye of passion is blind. The Rāfida are even more deliberate in denying the truth and are blinder (3) than these people. Indeed, among them (4)—and among those affiliated with them, such as the Nusayriyya and others—are some who say:
“Al-Hasan and al-Husayn were not the sons of Alī; rather, they were the sons of Salmān al-Fārisī.”
Some of them say:
“Alī did not die.”
They make similar claims about others as well.
Some of them say:
“Abū Bakr and Umar are not buried beside the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace.”
Some of them say:
“Ruqayya and Umm Kulthūm, the two wives of Uthmān, were not daughters of the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—but were Khadīja’s daughters by another man.”
Their obstinate rejection and denial of matters known by necessity are even greater than (5) those of the enemies of the Prophet’s family who killed al-Husayn. This demonstrates that they are greater liars, more unjust, and more ignorant than al-Husayn’s killers.
For it is well known that every wife of the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—is called “Mother of the Believers”: Āisha, Hafsa, [Zaynab bint Jahsh] (6), Umm Salama, Sawda bint Zama, Maymūna bint al-Hārith al-Hilāliyya, Juwayriya bint al-Hārith al-Mustaliqiyya, and Safiyya bint Huyayy ibn
