and [someone else] (1) disagrees with him, he refers the matter in dispute to Allah and His Messenger, as Allah, Glorified is He, has commanded (2). This is the judgment of Allah and His Messenger among all these men. Such was the practice of the Muslims during the lifetime of Allah’s Messenger—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and [the era of the Rightly Guided Caliphs] (3).
The sixth point (4) is this: His statement, “They did not take as leaders those whom others did—men preoccupied with kingship and acts of disobedience,” is false.
If he means that Ahl al-Sunnah say these kings should be followed in their acts of disobedience to Allah, this is a lie against them. The scholars of Ahl al-Sunnah who are recognized for their knowledge [among Ahl al-Sunnah] (5) unanimously agree that no one is to be followed in disobedience to Allah or taken as a leader in that regard.
But if he means that Ahl al-Sunnah seek the assistance of these kings in matters of obedience to Allah for which their help is needed (6), and assist them in the acts of obedience to Allah that they undertake, then it is said to them (7): If taking them as leaders in this respect is objectionable, the Rāfidah are more deeply implicated in this than they are. They constantly seek the assistance of unbelievers and the wicked in pursuing their aims, and they help the unbelievers [and the wicked] (8) achieve many of their own ends. This is something witnessed (9) in every age
