(1) N and M read: “In this is something indicating the virtue of one of the matter [sic]”; A and W read: “In this is something indicating the virtue of one of the two matters”; S reads: “In this is something indicating the virtue of one of the rulers”; B reads: “In one of the two matters is something indicating his virtue.” (2) A, B, N, and M read: “he possesses.” (3) A, B, N, and M read: “these [virtues].” (4) H, R, and S read: “Chapter Eleven.” (5) The following passage appears in K, p. 104 (M), 106 (M). (6) K reads: “His son was al-Hādī—peace be upon him.” He was Abū al-Hasan Alī ibn Muhammad ibn Alī, known as al-Hādī, the tenth imam according to the Rāfida. He was born in Medina in 214 AH. Al-Mutawakkil summoned him to Baghdad and settled him in Sāmarrā, where he died in 254 AH. See his biography in *Tārīkh Baghdād*, 12/56–57; *Shadharāt al-Dhahab*, 2/128–129; *al-Ibar*, 2/6; and *al-Alām*, 5/140. (7) A and B read: “within it.”
