he embraced Islam at his hands, or received the initiatic cloak from him—all of this is false by the unanimous agreement of those familiar with this matter] (1).
The hadith he cited from the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—concerning Fatimah is a fabrication by the unanimous agreement of those knowledgeable in hadith (2). Its falsity is apparent even to non-specialists in hadith [as well] (3), for the words:
“Fatimah guarded her chastity, so Allah forbade her offspring (4) to the Fire”
imply that her guarding her chastity was the reason her offspring were forbidden [to the Fire] (5). This (6) is categorically false, for Sarah guarded her chastity, yet Allah did not forbid all (7) of her descendants to the Fire.
Allah Most High says:
“And We gave him good tidings of Isaac, a prophet from among the righteous. We blessed him and Isaac; and among their descendants are some who do good and some who plainly wrong themselves.”
[Sūrat al-Sāffāt: 122, 113].

(2) Al-Suyūṭī said in *al-La’āli’ al-Masnū‘a* concerning this hadith: “Its chain rests on ‘Amr ibn Ghiyāth, who is also referred to simply as ‘Amr. Al-Dāraqutnī declared him weak and said, ‘He was one of the Shi‘i shaykhs.’ He said: ‘It was only narrated by ‘Āsim, from Zirr, from the Prophet, as a *mursal* (disconnected) report; Mu‘āwiyah (ibn Hishām) then transmitted it and corrupted it.’” Al-Suyūṭī then stated that al-Hākim included it in *al-Mustadrak* and declared it authentic. Al-Dhahabī objected to this in his abridgment, saying: “Rather, it is weak. Mu‘āwiyah, who had some weakness, was alone in narrating it from Ibn Ghiyāth, who is utterly feeble.” On this hadith, see al-Shawkānī, *al-Fawā’id al-Majmū‘a*, pp. 392–393; *Tanzīh al-Sharī‘a*, 1/417–418; and Ibn al-Jawzī, *al-Mawdu‘āt*, 1/422.
