All these grounds are more complete and fully established among Ahl al-Sunnah than among the Shia. The Shia therefore have no means of knowing that felicity will be attained except that this very means is more fully available to Ahl al-Sunnah.(1)
The fifth aspect:
Ahl al-Sunnah are more certain that their leading figures will attain salvation than the Rafidah are regarding theirs. This is because their leading figures after the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—are the foremost and earliest of the Emigrants and the Helpers. Ahl al-Sunnah are certain that these people attained salvation: they testify that the Ten(2) are in Paradise,(3) and they testify that Allah said to the people of Badr, “Do as you wish, for I have forgiven you.”(4) Rather, they say:
(1) (A) and (B) read: “and that.”
(2) (N) reads: “the people of the Ten.”
(3) Two hadiths narrated from Sa‘īd ibn Zayd—may Allah be pleased with him—indicate that the Ten are in Paradise. The first begins with the Prophet’s words—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—“Stand firm, Hirā’, for there is no one upon you but a prophet, a siddīq, or a martyr.” The hadith is recorded in Sunan Abī Dāwūd, 4/294–295 (Book of the Sunnah, chapter 9: The Caliphs); Sunan al-Tirmidhī, 5/315–316 (Book of Virtues, chapter: The Virtues of Sa‘īd ibn Zayd), where al-Tirmidhī said, “This is a hasan sahīh hadith”; Sunan Ibn Mājah, 1/48 (Introduction, The Virtues of the Ten); and al-Musnad (al-Ma‘ārif ed.), vol. [0–9], nos. 1629, 1630, 1638, 1644, and 1645. The second hadith begins: “Ten are in Paradise.” It is recorded in Sunan Abī Dāwūd and Sunan Ibn Mājah at the locations cited above, and in al-Musnad (al-Ma‘ārif ed.), vol. [0–9], nos. 1631 and 1637. Al-Albānī graded the hadith authentic in Sahīh al-Jāmi‘ al-Saghīr, 4–35.
(4) This is part of a lengthy hadith narrated from Alī—may Allah be pleased with him—recorded in al-Bukhārī, 5/77–78 (Book of Military Expeditions, chapter: The Virtue of Those Who Participated in Badr) and 6/149 (Book of Quranic Exegesis, Sūrat al-Mumtahana); Muslim, 4/1941–1942 (Book of the Virtues of the Companions, chapter: Some Virtues of the People of Badr); Sunan Abī Dāwūd, 3/64–65 (Book of Jihad, chapter: The Ruling on a Spy Who Is a Muslim); Sunan al-Tirmidhī, 5/82–84 (Book of Exegesis, Sūrat al-Mumtahana); and al-Musnad (al-Ma‘ārif ed.), 2/36–37. A shorter narration conveying the same meaning is reported from Abū Hurayra in Sunan Abī Dāwūd, 4/296 (Book of the Sunnah, chapter: The Caliphs), and al-Musnad (al-Ma‘ārif ed.), 15/83–84.
