A possible reason for this is that the dreams of the believers concur with one another (1), for the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said:
“Nothing remains of prophethood after me except a good dream, which a righteous believing man sees (2), or which is seen concerning him.” (3)
“He was asked about the words of Allah Most High:
‘For them are glad tidings in the life of this world and in the Hereafter.’
[Surah Jonah: 64]
He replied, ‘It is a good dream (4) that a righteous man sees, or that is seen concerning him.’” (5)
He also interpreted it as the praise of the believers:
“He was asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, a man performs
(1) (A) and (B) read: “the believer.”
(2) (A) and (B) read: “which the righteous servant sees”; (W), (H), (S), and (R) read: “the righteous man.”
(3) The hadith, with some variation in wording, is narrated from Abū Hurayra—may Allah be pleased with him—in al-Bukhārī, 9/31 (Book of Dream Interpretation, chapter: Glad Tidings). A portion of another hadith with the same meaning, narrated from Ibn Abbās—may Allah be pleased with them both—is found in Muslim, 1/348 (Book of Prayer, chapter: Supplication While Bowing and Prostrating); Sunan Abī Dāwūd, 1/321 (Book of Prayer, chapter: Supplication While Bowing and Prostrating); Sunan al-Nasā’ī, 8/148 (Book of al-Tatbīq, chapter: Glorifying the Lord While Bowing); Sunan Ibn Mājah, 2/1283 (Book of Dream Interpretation, chapter: The Good Dream That a Muslim Sees or That Is Seen concerning Him); and al-Musnad (al-Ma‘ārif ed.), 3/275.
(4) “Good” is omitted from (N), (M), (A), and (B).
(5) The hadith is narrated from Abū al-Dardā’ and Ubāda ibn al-Sāmit—may Allah be pleased with them both—in Sunan al-Tirmidhī, 3/364–365 (Book of Dreams, chapter: Prophethood Has Gone and Glad Tidings Remain). Al-Tirmidhī said of the hadith of Abū al-Dardā’: “This is a hasan hadith.” The hadith is repeated at 4/350 (Book of Quranic Exegesis, section on Surah Yūnus), and in Sunan Ibn Mājah, 2/1283 (Book of Dream Interpretation, chapter: The Good Dream).
