Minhaj as-SunnahIbn Taimiya

Likewise, the prohibition of eating dog meat is established by revealed proofs. Yet these Imamis are unable to produce evidence with which to rebut Mālik regarding one of the two reports from him. (1)

As for praying directly upon dried excrement without any barrier, this is not the position of Abū Hanīfa or any of the four imams. Rather, if the ground is contaminated by an impurity that then disappears through sunlight, wind, or transformation, the majority (2) hold that the ground becomes pure and that prayer upon it is permissible. (3) This is the position of Abū Hanīfa, one of the two views in the schools of Mālik and Ahmad, and al-Shāfiī’s earlier position. This view is more compelling than that of those who do not regard the ground as purified by these means.

As for the form (4) of prayer he described as one that Abū Hanīfa permits, and which was performed in the presence of a certain king, causing him to abandon his school, this does not prove the invalidity of the position of Ahl al-Sunnah. Ahl al-Sunnah maintain that the truth does not lie outside their collective body; they do not maintain that none of them has ever erred. (5)

The majority of Ahl al-Sunnah reject this form of prayer, as is the position of Mālik (6), al-Shāfiī, and Ahmad. The king he mentioned was Mahmūd ibn Sabuktigīn. He merely turned to what appeared to him to be the Sunnah of the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and he was among the finest kings,
