And He, exalted is He, said:
“Those among the Children of Israel who disbelieved were cursed by the tongues of David and Jesus, son of Mary. That was because they disobeyed and persisted in transgression. They did not forbid one another from the evil they committed. How wretched was what they used to do! You see many of them taking those who disbelieve as allies.”
[Surah al-Māʾida: 78–80]
Most of the time, they do not forbid one another from the evil they commit. Indeed, their lands contain more reprehensible evils than any other lands—oppression, indecencies (1), and the like. They take as allies the disbelievers with whom Allah is angry, and thus they are neither with the believers nor with the disbelievers (2), as He, exalted is He, said:
“Have you not seen those who take as allies a people with whom Allah is angry? They are neither of you nor of them.”
[Surah al-Mujādila: 14].
For this reason, the overwhelming majority (3) of Muslims regard them as a different kind altogether. Indeed, when the Muslims fought them at the mountain on the Syrian coast where they were in rebellion (4)—shedding Muslim blood, seizing their property, and waylaying travelers, while deeming such conduct lawful and professing it as part of their religion—a group of Turkmens fought them. They began saying, “We are Muslims,” but the Turkmens replied, “No, you are another kind (5).” Through the soundness of their hearts, they recognized that these people were another kind (6), outside the Muslims [because they were distinct from them] (7).
