As for the infallibility of the imams, no one has upheld it in the manner of the Imāmīs and Ismāīlīs.

It is sufficient indictment (1) of a doctrine (2) that none agreed with them upon it except the heretical hypocrites, whose leading teachers are worse in unbelief than the Jews, Christians, and polytheists! (3) This has always (4) been the practice of the Rāfidīs: they turn away from the Muslim community toward the Jews, Christians, and polytheists in their doctrines, allegiances, mutual assistance (5), warfare, and other matters.

Can anyone be more deeply misguided (6) than people who are hostile to the first and foremost among the Emigrants and the Helpers, yet ally themselves with the unbelievers and hypocrites? (7)

Allah Most High has said: “Have you not seen those who ally themselves with a people with whom Allah is angry? They are neither of you nor of them, and they knowingly swear to falsehood—Allah has prepared a severe punishment for them. Evil indeed is what they have been doing—They have taken their oaths as a shield and thereby turned people away from Allah’s path, so theirs will be a humiliating punishment—Neither their wealth nor their children will avail them in the least against Allah. They are the inhabitants of the Fire, abiding therein forever—On the Day Allah resurrects them all, they will swear to Him just as they swear to you, thinking that they have something to stand upon. Truly, it is they who are the liars—Satan has gained mastery over them and made them forget the remembrance of Allah. They are the party of Satan. Truly, it is the party of Satan who are the losers—Those who oppose Allah and His Messenger will be among the most abased—It has been decreed

(1) “It is sufficient indictment” is absent from (A) and (B). (2) (A) alone reads: “he says.” (3) “And the polytheists” is an addition in (A) and (B). (4) (M) reads: “and only”; the word is absent from (W). (5) (M) reads: “in doctrines, the least degree of allegiance and hostility”; (W): “in doctrines and in allegiance and hostility.” (6) (A) and (B) read: “And who is more misguided than.” (7) (A) and (B) read: “the hypocrites and the unbelievers.”

وَأَمَّا عِصْمَةُ الْأَئِمَّةِ فَلَمْ يَقُلْ بِهَا إِلَّا كَمَا قَالَ الْإِمَامِيَّةُ وَالْإِسْمَاعِيلِيَّةُ. وَنَاهِيكَ (١) بِقَوْلٍ (٢) لَمْ يُوَافِقْهُمْ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا الْمَلَاحِدَةُ الْمُنَافِقُونَ، الَّذِينَ شُيُوخُهُمُ الْكِبَارُ أَكْفَرُ مِنَ الْيَهُودِ وَالنَّصَارَى وَالْمُشْرِكِينَ! (٣) وَهَذَا دَأْبُ الرَّافِضَةِ دَائِمًا (٤) يَتَجَاوَزُونَ عَنْ جَمَاعَةِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ إِلَى الْيَهُودِ وَالنَّصَارَى وَالْمُشْرِكِينَ فِي الْأَقْوَالِ وَالْمُوَالَاةِ وَالْمُعَاوَنَةِ (٥) وَالْقِتَالِ وَغَيْرِ ذَلِكَ. فَهَلْ يُوجَدُ أَضَلُّ (٦) مِنْ قَوْمٍ يُعَادُونَ السَّابِقِينَ الْأَوَّلِينَ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَالْأَنْصَارِ وَيُوَالُونَ الْكُفَّارَ وَالْمُنَافِقِينَ؟ (٧) وَقَدْ قَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى: {أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ تَوَلَّوْا قَوْمًا غَضِبَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ مَا هُمْ مِنْكُمْ وَلَا مِنْهُمْ وَيَحْلِفُونَ عَلَى الْكَذِبِ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ - أَعَدَّ اللَّهُ لَهُمْ عَذَابًا شَدِيدًا إِنَّهُمْ سَاءَ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ - اتَّخَذُوا أَيْمَانَهُمْ جُنَّةً فَصَدُّوا عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُهِينٌ - لَنْ تُغْنِيَ عَنْهُمْ أَمْوَالُهُمْ وَلَا أَوْلَادُهُمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ شَيْئًا أُولَئِكَ أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ - يَوْمَ يَبْعَثُهُمُ اللَّهُ جَمِيعًا فَيَحْلِفُونَ لَهُ كَمَا يَحْلِفُونَ لَكُمْ وَيَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّهُمْ عَلَى شَيْءٍ أَلَا إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ الْكَاذِبُونَ - اسْتَحْوَذَ عَلَيْهِمُ الشَّيْطَانُ فَأَنْسَاهُمْ ذِكْرَ اللَّهِ أُولَئِكَ حِزْبُ الشَّيْطَانِ أَلَا إِنَّ حِزْبَ الشَّيْطَانِ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ - إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُحَادُّونَ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ أُولَئِكَ فِي الْأَذَلِّينَ - كَتَبَ

(١) وَنَاهِيكَ: سَاقِطَةٌ مِنْ (أ) ، (ب) . (٢) أفَقَطْ: يَقُولُ. (٣) وَالْمُشْرِكِينَ: زِيَادَةٌ فِي (أ) ، (ب) . (٤) م: وَإِنَّمَا. وَسَقَطَتِ الْكَلِمَةُ مِنْ (وَ) . (٥) م: فِي الْأَقْوَالِ أَدْنَى الْمُوَالَاةِ وَالْمُعَادَاةِ، وَ: فِي الْأَقْوَالِ وَفِي الْمُوَالَاةِ وَالْمُعَادَاةِ. (٦) أ، ب: وَمَنْ أَضَلُّ مِنْ. (٧) أ، ب: الْمُنَافِقِينَ وَالْكُفَّارَ.
