an object smaller than all other objects—a mere speck—in the East while we were in the West, despite the many obstacles between us and it. This is sheer sophistry (1).
The reply to him is: (2)
This may be addressed from several angles:
First, it may be said: As for (3) affirming that Allah Most High will be seen with the eyes in the Hereafter, this is the position of the early generations and leading scholars of the Muslim community, as well as the vast majority of Muslims who follow the four legal schools and others. Hadith scholars regard the reports transmitted from the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—concerning this matter as mass-transmitted.
The majority of those who affirm the vision say that He will be seen plainly and face-to-face, as is recognized by reason. The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said:
“You will indeed see your Lord—Mighty and Majestic (4)—on the Day of Resurrection just as you see the sun and the moon (5), with no difficulty in seeing Him.”
Another wording (6) states:
“Just as you see the sun and the moon in a clear sky.”
Another wording states:
“Do you have any difficulty seeing the sun in a clear sky when no cloud obscures it?”
They replied, “No.”
He asked, “Then do you have any difficulty seeing the moon in a clear sky when no cloud obscures it?”
They replied, “No.”
He said, “You will indeed see (7) your Lord just as you see the sun and the moon.” (8)
