Minhaj as-SunnahIbn Taimiya

The second is as follows:

Seeking refuge in Iblīs would only be reasonable if he could shelter them from Allah, regardless of whether Allah creates His servants’ acts or not. Yet these Qadariyya, such as the author and his ilk, (1) maintain that Iblīs does what Allah does not decree (2), that he acts without Allah’s will, that things which He does not will occur within His dominion (3), and that Allah has no power (* to move Iblīs or any other living being, or to cause them to pass from one deed to another—neither from good to evil nor from evil to good. Yet they concede (4), despite this *) (5) claim and despite the agency and power they ascribe to Iblīs (6) to the exclusion of Allah, that Iblīs cannot grant protection (7) against Allah or shelter anyone from Him. Thus, on this basis, seeking refuge in him is impossible. Even if what they claim to be entailed were assumed—Allah forbid—namely, that someone other than Iblīs is more harmful than he toward creation, Iblīs would nevertheless remain incapable of repelling (8) Allah’s decree and predestination. Thus, anyone seeking refuge in him—or indeed in any created being—would be forsaken.

As Allah Most High says:

“Do not set up any other god alongside Allah, lest you find yourself condemned and forsaken.”

[Surah al-Isrāʾ: 22]

And Allah Most High says:

“Say, ‘In whose hand is the dominion of all things, who grants protection while none can be protected against Him, if you know?’ They will say, ‘It belongs to Allah.’ Say, ‘How, then, are you deluded?’”

[Surah

(1) (N) and (M) add: “they.” (2) (N) and (M) read: “Allah decrees it for him.” (3) (N) and (M) read: “what Allah does not will.” (4) (N) reads: “they concede.” (5) The text between the two asterisks is omitted from (M). (6) (N) and (M) read: “and to Iblīs,” which is an error. (7) (‘Ayn) and (A) read: “compel.” (8) (B) alone reads: “lifting.”
