sins, abhors them, and detests them, because Allah detests and abhors them; yet he is pleased with the wisdom for which Allah created them. Thus, insofar as the servant commits them, they are hated and objects of wrath; but insofar as the Lord created them, they are loved and approved, because Allah created them for the wisdom He has in doing so. The servant commits them even though they harm him and incur punishment for him. We therefore condemn them, hate them, and forbid them, just as Allah commanded us (1) to do, since He too [Glorified is He] (2) is displeased with and detests them. Yet we know that Allah brought them into being because of the wisdom He has in doing so, and thus we are pleased (3) with His decree and predestination. Whenever we consider that Allah has decreed and predestined them, we are pleased with Allah and submit to His judgment (4). As for the servant’s committing them, we must hate and forbid it and strive (5) to prevent it (6) to the best of our ability, for this is what Allah loves from us.
When Allah Most High sends the disbelievers against the Muslims (7), we must accept Allah’s decree in sending them, while striving to repel and fight them. Neither of these two duties contradicts the other. Likewise, He—Glorified is He—created the mouse, the snake, and the vicious dog, and commanded us to kill them. We are pleased with Allah for having created them and know that He has wisdom in doing so, yet we kill them (8) as He commanded us, for Allah loves and approves of that.
