And He said concerning the Messiah [may Allah bless him and grant him peace] (1):
“And He has made me blessed wherever I may be,”
through His words:
“and dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me an overbearing wretch.”
[Surah Maryam: 31, 32]
Thus, He made clear that it was Allah who made him dutiful to his mother and did not make him an overbearing wretch. This explicitly expresses the position of Ahl al-Sunnah that Allah [Mighty and Majestic] (2) is the Creator of the servants’ actions.
Allah Most High said concerning Pharaoh and his people:
“And We made them leaders who called to the Fire.”
[Surah al-Qasas: 41]
Allah Most High also said (3):
“For whoever among you wills to follow the straight path. Yet you do not will unless Allah, Lord of all worlds, wills.”
[Surah al-Takwīr: 28, 29]
And Allah Most High said:
“Indeed, this is a reminder; so let whoever wills take a path to his Lord. Yet you do not will unless Allah wills. Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.”
[Surah al-Insān: 29, 30]
And His words (4):
“No indeed! Surely this is a reminder; so let whoever wills heed it.”
[Surah al-Muddaththir: 54, 55]
Thus, He affirmed the servant’s will and stated that it exists only by the will of the Lord [Most High] (5). (6) This explicitly expresses the position of Ahl al-Sunnah in affirming the servant’s will and that it exists only by the will of the Lord (7).
He has also stated that the servants act, make things, perform deeds, believe, and disbelieve,
