(1) Al-Suyūtī cited in *al-La'ālī al-Masnū'a*, 1/28–31, several hadiths concerning seeing Allah in the form of a young man. The first (1/28–29) is narrated from Umm al-Tufayl and attributed to the Prophet: “I saw my Lord in a dream in the finest form: a dignified young man whose feet were amid greenery, wearing sandals of gold, with a golden *farāsh* upon His face.” Al-Shawkānī also cited this hadith in *al-Fawā'id*, p. 447. The second (1/29) is narrated from Ibn 'Abbās: “The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said: ‘I saw my Lord in the form of a young man whose hair reached his earlobes.’” A third hadith (1:) is narrated from 'Ā'isha: “The Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—saw his Lord in the form of a young man seated upon a throne, with His foot amid shimmering green light.” A fourth hadith (1) states that the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—saw his Lord in the form of a young man wearing a crown, and so forth. A fifth hadith is narrated from Ibn 'Abbās, from the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—who said: “I saw my Lord Most High in the form of a beardless youth wearing a green robe.” A sixth hadith (1/31) states: “Ibn 'Abbās reported that Muhammad saw his Lord in the form of a beardless youth, with a curtain of pearls before Him and His feet of greenery.” Al-Suyūtī cited the scholars’ views concerning these hadiths. Some rejected them and classified them as fabrications, while others attempted to interpret the vision as having occurred only in a dream or as meaning that the Messenger saw his Lord with his heart.
Ibn al-Dayba' al-Shaybānī stated in *Tamyīz al-Tayyib min al-Khabīth fīmā Yadūr 'alā Alsinat al-Nās min al-Hadīth*, p. [0–9]9 (Subayh ed., 1347 AH): “The hadith, ‘I saw my Lord in the form of a beardless youth,’ circulates among the common Sufis. It is fabricated and falsely attributed to the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—as al-Tāj al-Subkī and others have stated. Allah Most High knows best.” See also al-Fattanī, *Tadhkirat al-Mawdū'āt*, p. [0–9]2; *Mawdū'āt al-Qārī*, p. [0–9]4; and *Tanzīh al-Sharī'a*, 1/145.
