An authentic hadith relates that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“The servant is nearest to his Lord while he is prostrating.” (1)
The two Sahih collections also relate that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“Every night, our Lord descends to the lowest heaven when the final third of the night remains and says: ‘Who will call upon Me so that I may answer him? Who will seek My forgiveness so that I may forgive him? Who will ask of Me so that I may give him?’ This continues until dawn breaks.” (2)
The messengers, may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon them, commanded people to worship Allah alone, without partner, and to ask and call upon Him. They prohibited calling upon anyone besides Allah Most High. An authentic hadith relates that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“The places most beloved to Allah Most High are the mosques, and the places most hated by Allah Most High are the marketplaces.” (3)
He meant the kinds of places found in his city and comparable cities. Medina had neither taverns nor churches nor any place of polytheistic worship, and such places are worse than marketplaces.
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, also said:
“The worst people are those whom the Hour overtakes while they are still alive and those who take graves as mosques.”
This applies if the mosque has been built
