The upshot is that every human being longs for falah (true success), yet the scope of that longing is proportionate to one’s ambition. The believer seeks success in this world and the Hereafter, whereas the disbeliever, having no faith in the afterlife, wants success only in the present life.
Among the chief causes of falah is turning back to Allah in repentance, as in the verse: “And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed” (al-Nur, 24:31). In other words, repent so that you may secure what you hope for and be spared what you fear. And Allah alone grants success.
13- Abu Hurayrah d. said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, ‘By Allah, I seek Allah’s forgiveness and repent to Him more than seventy times in a single day.’” (Reported by al-Bukhari.)
14- Al-Agharr ibn Yasar al-Muzani d. reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “O people, repent to Allah and seek His forgiveness, for I, indeed, repent one hundred times each day.” (Reported by Muslim.)
