be pleased with her—accusing her of something from which she was completely innocent. In response, Allah revealed ten verses of His Book declaring her innocence, verses that will be recited until the Day of Resurrection. He said: “Indeed, those who came with the slander are a faction among you; do not regard it as evil for you…” until His words, “As for the one who took upon himself the greatest share of it, he will have a tremendous punishment” (Surah al-Nur, 24:11).
Thus the wives of the Prophet ﷺ had Allah’s revelations and wisdom recited in their homes: the Prophet ﷺ would recite them, and they in turn would recite them. The Exalted One commands them, “Remember this—remember what is recited in your homes—adhere to the Sunnah and fulfill what is required of you.” Whoever has the Book and wisdom recited in his home has certainly been granted great good and abundant knowledge, and he will be held accountable for that knowledge. Anyone to whom Allah grants knowledge and wisdom is more responsible than one who is ignorant. We ask Allah to grant us and you knowledge and wisdom; He is Ever-Munificent, Most Generous.
