Allah yet fails to follow the Messenger ﷺ is not truthful; he is, in fact, lying. The unmistakable sign of loving Allah is to follow His Messenger ﷺ.
Know that the measure of your shortcoming in following the Messenger ﷺ is the precise measure of your deficiency in loving Allah. And what is the result of following the Messenger? The same verse states: "Allah will love you." That is the fruit: that Allah loves you, not that you merely claim to love Him. Allah will not love you unless you do what He loves. The real issue, therefore, is not for someone to say, "I love Allah," but for Allah to love him. We ask Allah to make us and you among those He loves; that is what truly matters.

Gabriel then loves him and announces to the inhabitants of the heavens: 'Allah loves so-and-so, so love him.' The inhabitants of the heavens then love him, and acceptance for him is placed upon the earth," so the people of the earth also love him, accept him, and he becomes their leader. Therefore, attaining Allah’s love is the ultimate goal, but it is a goal reserved for the one who follows the Messenger ﷺ—the one who truly loves the Messenger. Whoever follows the Messenger ﷺ, Allah will love him.
