will speak to every human being individually on the Day of Resurrection. Allah the Most High says, “O mankind, you are laboring toward your Lord with great exertion and will meet Him” (al-Inshiqāq 6). That is, you will inevitably meet your Lord, and He will take you to account for that toil—your striving and effort in this life. Yet glad tidings await the believer, as Allah also says, “Be mindful of Allah and know that you will meet Him, and give good news to the believers” (al-Baqarah 223). All praise is for Allah; when the believer meets his Lord, it will be for his good.
For this reason the Prophet ﷺ said in the hadith, “There is none among you but that his Lord will speak to him, with no interpreter between him and Him.” On the Day of Judgment Allah will address each servant directly, without a translator. He will remind every believing servant of his sins, saying, “You did such-and-such on such-and-such a day.” When the servant admits them and fears destruction, Allah will say, “I concealed them for you in the worldly life, and today I forgive you.” How many sins has Allah, exalted be He, veiled for us—sins known to none but Him! On the Day of Resurrection He will complete His favor by pardoning them and sparing us any punishment. All praise belongs to Allah.
The Prophet ﷺ went on to say, “He will look to his right and see nothing but what he sent ahead; he will look to his left and see nothing but what he sent ahead; he will look in front of him and see nothing but the Fire facing him.” He then concluded, “So guard yourselves against the Fire, even with half a date”—meaning with half a date or even less. Ward off the Fire with whatever you can, even that.
