a useful sentence, I write it down—may I do that or not? The apparent ruling is that it is not permissible, for once he occupies himself with writing he becomes distracted from what follows. A person has not been given two hearts: if he is busy writing, he is inattentive to what the preacher says while he is still recording what has already passed. Praise be to Allah, however, He has now provided people with something that spares them this difficulty: audio recorders. You can simply bring a recorder, capture the sermon with ease, and then listen to it at home, in your car, or wherever you may be. Allah is the One who grants success.
129 — Hadith Thirteen: On his authority it is reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “When a Muslim—or a believer—performs ablution and washes his face, every sin that his eyes have looked at is washed away with the water, or with the last drop of water. When he washes his hands, every sin his hands have committed is washed away with the water, or with the last drop of water. When he washes his feet, every sin toward which his feet have walked is washed away with the water, or with the last drop of water, until he emerges pure of all sins.” Related by Muslim.
[Explanation]
The compiler (may Allah have mercy on him) cites, on the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), the virtues of ablution, which Allah has enjoined in His Book in His words: “O you who believe! When you rise for prayer, wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, wipe your heads, and wash your feet up to the ankles” (al-Maʾidah 5:6).
