he obtains two great benefits:
The first benefit: Allah raises him by it one degree—meaning a higher station with Him and esteem in people’s hearts; and the same applies to every righteous deed you perform: through it Allah elevates you one degree.
The second benefit: He erases from you one sin. A person attains completeness when what he dislikes is removed and what he loves is secured. Being elevated in rank is something a person loves, whereas sins are what he detests. Thus, if a degree is raised for him and a sin is wiped away on account of that prostration, he has achieved his goal and escaped what he feared.
108 – Fourteenth ḥadith: ʿAbū Ṣafwān ʿAbd Allah ibn Busr al-Aslamī narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The best of people is the one whose life is long and whose deeds are good.” Reported by al-Tirmidhī, who classified it as ḥasan (sound).
(Busr: with a ḍamma on the bāʾ and an un-dotted sīn.)
[Explanation]
Regarding the ḥadith of ʿAbd Allah ibn Busr, the Prophet ﷺ said, “The best of people is the one whose life is long and whose deeds are good,” because the longer a person lives in obedience to Allah, the nearer he draws to Allah and the higher his rank becomes in the Hereafter; every deed he performs during those added years brings him closer to his Lord. Therefore, the best of people is the one who is granted both of these blessings.
