Sharḥ Riyāḍ al-ṢāliḥīnIbn al-'Uthaymin

peace while you are superior and Allah is with you.” (Muhammad 47:35)

What more do you want? You are the ones who stand uppermost, and Allah is with you. So how can you be the party that calls for peace? How can you lose heart? Yet because we have lagged behind in our religion, we have fallen behind in every other respect and become the very opposite of what we once were. In the days of the righteous predecessors, a Muslim would walk the earth convinced that he was its rightful heir, for Allah says in His Book: “Indeed, We wrote in the Psalms, after the Reminder, that My righteous servants shall inherit the earth.” (Al-Anbiya 21:105). He therefore regarded himself as master of the land.

Today, regrettably, the situation is reversed. That is why we urge our sons and our youth to gain a true understanding of the religion, to hold fast to it in earnest, to beware of the enemies of Allah, and to realize that the enemy of Allah—and of themselves—will never work for their benefit. He seeks only his own advantage and the destruction of the Muslims, and with them Islam itself. We therefore ask Allah, the Exalted, to honor us through His religion and to honor His religion through us, to make us among the callers to the truth and its supporters, and to provide the Muslim community with righteous leaders who will guide it to what secures its well-being and happiness in both religion and worldly life.

As for the hadiths:

  1. Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Allah, the Exalted, has said, ‘Whoever shows enmity to a friend of Mine, I have declared war upon him. My servant does not draw near to Me with anything more beloved to Me than the duties I have made obligatory upon him; and My servant continues to draw near to Me with voluntary works until I love him. When I love him, I become his hearing with which he hears, his sight with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes, and his foot with which he walks. If he asks of Me, I will surely grant him, and if he seeks refuge in Me…’”
