So they are now thrusting women into jobs meant for men and leaving the young men idle—corrupting the youth and corrupting the women. Do you know what happens next? Employing women side-by-side with men gives rise to the evil of unlawful mixing and the evil of fornication and sexual immorality, whether it be the fornication of the eye, the fornication of the tongue, the fornication of the hand, or the fornication of the private parts. All of this is possible whenever a woman and a man share the same workplace. How widespread is corruption in the countries that hire men together with women!
Furthermore, once a woman is employed she will be cut off from her home and her husband, and the family will begin to disintegrate. Because she is at work, the household will then need a servant; at that point we import women from every corner of the world—of every religion and every moral background, even if the religion is not Islam and the morals are depraved—to serve as maids in our houses. We put our own women in the positions that belong to our men, rendering the men idle and keeping the women busy. This, too, is a grave evil: the unraveling of the family. When a child grows up seeing no one before him but a servant, he forgets his mother and father and loses his attachment to them. Thus homes are ruined, families scattered, and evils arise from this that only Allah knows.
There is no doubt that our enemies—and the local lackeys of those enemies, for among us are hangers-on who studied under them and were stained with their malicious ideas; I do not say their brains were washed, but rather that their brains were polluted with these vile notions that run counter to the religion of Islam—may claim, “This does not conflict with creed.” On the contrary, we say that it demolishes the creed just as surely as if a person were to assert that Allah has a partner, or that—
