and the community affirms that these attributes truly belong to Allah in a real sense, yet they do not resemble the attributes of created beings. Just as Allah—majestic and exalted—resembles none of His creation, so none of His attributes resemble the attributes of created beings.
Among the benefits of this ḥadīth is that the Children of Israel experienced wonders and signs so remarkable that the Prophet ﷺ conveyed their stories to us so that we might take heed. A case in point is the story of the three men who sought shelter in a cave; a boulder from the mountain slid down and sealed the entrance, and they were unable to move it. Each of them then sought Allah’s help by invoking a righteous deed he had performed. Thus the Prophet ﷺ recounts to us reports from the Children of Israel that serve as admonition and a lesson. We should therefore take from this ḥadīth the lesson that when a person shows gratitude for Allah’s favor, acknowledges His grace, and fulfills the obligations due on his wealth, that is one of the reasons his wealth is preserved and blessed. Allah is the One who grants success.
66 — Seventh ḥadīth: From Abū Yaʿlā Shaddād ibn Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) who reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, “The prudent person is the one who takes himself to account and works for what lies beyond death, while the incapable person is the one who follows his own desires yet pins his hopes on Allah.”
