—and we seek Allah’s protection—“Indeed, those who disbelieve and commit wrongdoing, Allah will never forgive them nor guide them to any path, except the path to Hell, wherein they will remain forever; and that is easy for Allah” (4:168–169). They will therefore be cast into it, and the disbelievers will dwell therein for endless ages—an eternity without limit. Allah, exalted is He, says in His Book, “Indeed, those who disbelieve…” and He also says, “Allah has cursed the disbelievers and prepared for them a Blaze, abiding therein forever; they will find no protector or helper. The Day their faces are turned about in the Fire, they will say, ‘Would that we had obeyed Allah and obeyed the Messenger!’ And they will say, ‘Our Lord, we obeyed our leaders and our elders, and they led us astray from the path. Our Lord, give them double punishment and curse them with a mighty curse’” (33:64, 65–68). And He, most high, says, “Whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger—for him is the Fire of Hell, wherein they shall abide forever” (72:23).

These three passages from the Book of Allah—mighty and majestic—state explicitly that the inhabitants of Hell will remain there forever, and no one may dispute after Allah has spoken, just as the people of Paradise will remain there forever.

Should someone object, saying, “But Allah the Exalted says in Sūrat Hūd: ‘As for those who are wretched, they will be in the Fire; for them therein is sighing and groaning, abiding therein for as long as the heavens and the earth endure, except as your Lord wills. Indeed, your Lord does whatever He wills. And as for those who are blessed, they will be in Paradise, abiding therein for as long as the heavens and the earth endure, except as your Lord wills—an unceasing gift’” (11:106–108), then we reply: In regard to the people of Paradise He says, “an unceasing gift,” meaning a gift that is never cut off but perpetual, whereas about the people of Hell He says, “Indeed, your Lord does whatever He wills.” Does this mean that the torment of the people of Hell will one day cease? The answer is no; but because the people of Paradise will be revelling in Allah’s bounty
