and blessings be upon him—will be driven away from it and will not taste a drop. We ask Allah for safety.
That Basin which Allah has prepared for the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—is the greatest of all the prophets’ basins. Every prophet will have a basin at which the believers of his nation will drink, yet none of them can be compared to the Basin of Allah’s Messenger—may He bless him and grant him peace—for this community will comprise two-thirds of the people of Paradise. It is therefore no wonder that the Prophet’s Basin is the largest, the most expansive, and the most inclusive of them all.
Another matter that must be affirmed concerning that Day is belief in the ṣirāṭ (the bridge). The ṣirāṭ is a bridge stretched across Hell, finer than a hair and sharper than a sword. People will cross it in accordance with their deeds: whoever used to hasten to good works in this world will cross swiftly, while the sluggish will proceed slowly; and whoever mixed righteous and evil deeds, and whom Allah has not pardoned, may be toppled into the Fire—Allah’s refuge is sought!
People will traverse it at different speeds: some will pass like the blink of an eye, others like lightning, others like the wind; some like a galloping horse, others like riders on camels; some will walk, some will crawl, and some will be flung into Hell.
None but the believers will set foot on this bridge. As for the disbelievers, they will not cross it at all; rather, they will be herded from the plain of the Resurrection straight into the Fire—may Allah grant us well-being. When the believers have crossed the bridge, they will be halted on a causeway between Paradise and Hell, where retribution will be taken
