It is likewise narrated that Allah, exalted is He, said: “O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with sins nearly filling the earth, then implore My forgiveness, I would forgive you.” This indicates that no matter how many sins a person commits, if he seeks Allah’s pardon and turns back to Him, Allah will indeed forgive him.
Similarly, the Prophet ﷺ instructed the women to give abundantly in charity and to seek plentiful forgiveness when he observed that they were the majority of the people of Hell. This shows that asking forgiveness is one of the safeguards against entering the Fire.
So, my brother, engage frequently in istighfar; repeat often: astaghfirullah (I seek Allah’s forgiveness), Allahumma ighfir lī warḥamni (O Allah, forgive me and have mercy on me), and other such phrases. These are light upon the tongue, cause you no harm, and impose no hardship.
