1866 – Narrated from him:
We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at a banquet. A foreleg was brought to him—a piece he was fond of—so he took a bite from it and then said, “I shall be the leader of all people on the Day of Resurrection. Do you know why?
Allah will gather the first and the last on a single plain; everyone present will see them, and the caller’s voice will reach them all. The sun will draw near, and the people will be afflicted with anguish and distress beyond their ability to bear. They will say, ‘Can you not see the state we are in and what has overtaken us? Will you not look for someone to intercede with your Lord on our behalf?’
Some of them will say to others, ‘Your father Adam!’ They will go to him and say, ‘O Adam, you are the father of humankind. Allah created you with His own Hand, breathed into you of His Spirit, ordered the angels so they prostrated to you, and He lodged you in Paradise. Will you not intercede for us with your Lord? Do you not see the plight we are in and what has befallen us?’
He will reply, ‘My Lord is angry today with an anger He has never shown before and will never show again. He forbade me the tree, but I disobeyed. I am concerned only with myself, myself, myself. Go to someone else—go to Noah.’
They will then go to Noah and say, ‘O Noah, you were the first of the messengers sent to the people of the earth, and Allah called you a grateful servant. Do you not see our plight and what has befallen us? Will you not intercede for us with your Lord?’
He will answer, ‘My Lord is angry today with an anger He has never shown before and will never show again. I had a supplication, and I used it against my people. I am concerned only with myself, myself, myself. Go to someone else—go to Abraham.’
So they will go to Abraham and say, ‘O Abraham, you are Allah’s prophet and His close friend from among…’
