—money that remained in your charge even though you had denied it. Afterwards you repented to Allah, acknowledged the debt, went to the man and said, “So-and-so, at first I rejected your right, but now I have repented to Allah and I regret what I did; here is your money.” He responds, “I will settle this with you on the Day of Resurrection.” In that situation we say: if Allah knows that your repentance is genuine, then Allah the Exalted will assume the sin for you—that is, He will satisfy your opponent. Nevertheless, give the money away in charity on the man’s behalf so that you clear your liability.
For example, if the sum you owed was one hundred riyals, and after feeling remorse and seeking forgiveness you came to him and said, “Take these one hundred riyals,” but he replied, “I do not want them; I will claim your righteous deeds on the Day of Judgment,” and still refused, then we say: if Allah knows your intention is sincere, you incur no further sin and your burden is lifted. Yet you must still donate that hundred riyals on his behalf to be completely absolved.
1846 – ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The angels were created from light, the jinn were created from a smokeless flame of fire, and Adam was created from what has already been described to you.” Related by Muslim.
1847 – She also reported: “The character of Allah’s Prophet ﷺ was the Quran.” Muslim records this within a longer narration.
