of the inhabitants of Paradise.” The Companions thereupon proclaimed “Allāhu akbar,” rejoicing in the favor Allah had bestowed on them. He ﷺ then said, “I hope you will make up half of the people of Paradise,” so they glorified Allah again and rejoiced. He added, “I hope you will be two-thirds of the people of Paradise.” Concerning this third statement I am uncertain, yet it is authentically reported from the Prophet ﷺ that the people of Paradise will be one hundred and twenty ranks, eighty of which belong to this ummah.
The crucial point is that Gog and Magog are descendants of Adam; their appearance is the same as that of other human beings and does not differ in any way. As for what is mentioned in some reports—that among them are those who are extremely short or exceedingly tall, or that some of them spread one ear beneath themselves as a mat and wrap the other around themselves as a cloak—none of this is sound. They are human beings like us, though they form vast nations. Allah the Exalted says, “They will surge forth from every elevation” (Q 21:96), meaning from every rise in the land, for the flat plains cannot contain them because of their enormous numbers. “They will surge forth” indicates that they will rush swiftly, as though loosed upon the children of Adam.
Allah will then say to Jesus, “I have sent forth servants of Mine against whom no one has the power to fight; so take My servants into al-Ṭūr (the Mount).” Al-Ṭūr is a well-known mountain. Jesus ﷺ will therefore ascend the Mount with those who are with him and remain there until hunger and scarcity become so severe that a bull’s head is more precious to any one of them than a large sum of gold dinars.
At that point Jesus and his followers will earnestly supplicate Allah to remove from them those nations that have besieged them on the mountain. Allah will then send against Gog and Magog al-naghf—a type of worm—that strikes them in their necks, and by morning they will lie fallen, corpses together as though they were one single soul, every last one of them.
