Chapter: The Disapproval of Saying “khubuthat nafsi”

1739 – ʿĀʾishah (Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, “None of you should say, ‘khubuthat nafsi (my soul feels foul).’ Rather, he should say, ‘laqisat nafsi (my soul feels queasy).’ ” Agreed upon.

The scholars have explained that khubuthat means ghuthiyat (“I feel nauseated”), which is the same sense carried by laqisat; yet the Prophet ﷺ disliked the wording that employs the root khubth (filth).
