Chapter: The prohibition of reviling the wind and the supplications to recite when it blows
1727 – Ubayy ibn Kaʿb (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Do not curse the wind. If you see something in it that you dislike, then say: ‘O Allah, we ask You for the good of this wind, the good that is within it, and the good for which it has been sent; and we seek refuge in You from the evil of this wind, the evil that is within it, and the evil for which it has been sent.’” Related by al-Tirmidhi, who said, “A sound and authentic hadith.”
1728 – Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say, “The wind is from the mercy (rūḥ) of Allah; it may come bringing mercy and it may come bringing punishment. When you observe it, do not curse it; rather, ask Allah for its good and seek refuge in Allah from its evil.” Reported by Abu Dawud with a good chain of transmission. His phrase “from the rūḥ of Allah” is with the rāʾ pronounced openly, meaning “His mercy toward His servants.”
1729 – ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Whenever a strong wind blew, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would say, “O Allah, I ask You for its good, the good that is within it, and the good for which it has been sent; and I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil that is within it, and the evil for which it has been sent.” Reported by Muslim.
