disobedience to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and disobeying the Messenger is, in fact, disobeying Allah. Many people are tested in this matter: you will often find someone saying to a customer, for example, “By Allah, it is excellent,” or “By Allah, I bought it for such-and-such,” whether he is truthful or lying. All of that is prohibited. Buy and sell without taking oaths if you want Allah to bless your earnings.
The hadith of Abu Qatadah carries the same warning: “Beware of swearing in business deals, for it moves the merchandise but destroys the blessing.” The meaning of the two narrations is identical: both indicate that a person is forbidden to swear when selling. The outward sense of the hadith makes no distinction between swearing much or little. However, because sellers—and buyers—are constantly involved in transactions and tend to swear repeatedly, some scholars understood the prohibition to apply specifically to frequent oaths during buying and selling.
If Allah intends provision for a servant, it will reach him without any oath. We ask Allah to grant us and you lawful sustenance.
