Sharḥ Riyāḍ al-ṢāliḥīnIbn al-'Uthaymin

Chapter: The Gravity of an Intentionally False Oath

1712 – Ibn Masʿūd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, “Whoever swears a false oath concerning the property of a Muslim, wrongfully, will meet Allah while He is angry with him.” He then recited to us its confirmation from the Book of Allah: “Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a paltry price…”—to the end of the verse (Q 3:77). Agreed upon.

1713 – Abū Umāmah Iyās ibn Thalabah al-Ḥārithī (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever seizes the right of a Muslim by means of an oath, Allah has made the Fire obligatory for him and has forbidden Paradise to him.” A man asked, “Even if it is something trivial, O Messenger of Allah?” He replied, “Even if it is only a twig from an arak tree.” Narrated by Muslim.

1714 – ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ (may Allah be pleased with them both) related that the Prophet ﷺ said, “The major sins are: associating partners with Allah, disobedience to parents, killing a soul, and the yamin ghamus (the perjurious oath that plunges its taker into Hell).” Narrated by al-Bukhārī.
