Chapter: The prohibition of shunning another Muslim for more than three days—unless the person avoided is guilty of a religious innovation, openly engages in sinful conduct, or something similar.
Allah the Exalted says, “The believers are but brothers, so make peace between your brothers” and He says, “Do not cooperate in sin and aggression.”
1591 – Anas ⦗may Allah be pleased with him⦘ reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Do not break off relations, do not turn your backs on one another, do not hate one another, and do not envy one another. Be, O servants of Allah, brothers. It is not lawful for a Muslim to boycott his brother for more than three days.” Agreed upon.
1592 – Abū Ayyūb ⦗may Allah be pleased with him⦘ reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “It is not permissible for a Muslim to shun his brother for more than three nights: they meet, but this one turns away and that one turns away. The better of the two is the one who initiates the greeting of peace.” Agreed upon.
1593 – Abū Hurayrah ⦗may Allah be pleased with him⦘ reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Deeds are presented every Monday and Thursday, and Allah forgives every servant who does not associate anything with Him—except a man between whom and his brother there is rancor. It is said, ‘Leave these two until they reconcile.’” Muslim narrated it.
